What is Identity Verification?

Identity verification is an optional feature for GatherRound Pro members that lets you prove you are who you say you are. When you verify, you earn a Verified badge (🛡️) on your profile that shows other users you've completed identity verification.

We use Stripe Identity, a secure verification service from Stripe (the same company that processes payments for millions of businesses worldwide), to verify your identity.

Build trust with hosts — Hosts are more likely to approve RSVPs from verified users, especially for events at private homes
Access verified-only events — Some hosts require verification to join their events
Stand out — Your verified badge shows on your profile, in attendee lists, and on event pages

Set an example — Verified hosts help players feel safe coming to your events

What You'll Need

To complete verification, you'll need:

A valid government-issued photo ID
- Driver's license
- Passport
- State ID card
- National ID card
A device with a camera
- Smartphone (recommended)
- Computer with webcam
- Tablet with camera
Good lighting
- Well-lit room
- No glare on your ID

How It Works

Step 1: Start Verification

Go to Settings → Identity Verification
Click Verify Your Identity
You'll be redirected to Stripe's secure verification page

Step 2: Upload Your ID

Choose your ID type (driver's license, passport, etc.)
Take a photo of the front of your ID
Take a photo of the back of your ID (if applicable)
Stripe checks that:
- The ID is valid and not expired
- The document is authentic
- The information is readable

Step 3: Take a Selfie

Position your face in the frame
Follow any on-screen instructions (turn your head, etc.)
Stripe compares your selfie to your ID photo
This confirms you're the person on the ID

Step 4: Processing

Stripe reviews your submission
Most verifications complete in under a minute
Some may take up to a few minutes for additional review
You'll see your status update automatically

Step 5: You're Verified!

Once complete:

Your profile displays the Verified badge (🛡️)
You can join verified-only events
Your status is updated in Settings

How Long Does It Take?

Most verifications complete in under 60 seconds.

Stripe uses automated systems to verify documents quickly. In some cases, additional review may be needed, which can take a few minutes. You'll see a "Processing" status while this happens.

Verification Statuses

Status	Meaning
Unverified	You haven't started verification
Processing	Your documents are being reviewed
Verified	Successfully verified ✓
Requires Input	We need you to try again or provide additional info
Failed	Verification couldn't be completed

If Verification Fails

Common reasons for failure:

Blurry photos — Retake in better lighting
Expired ID — Use a valid, non-expired document
Glare or shadows — Avoid direct light on the ID
Face not matching — Ensure your selfie clearly shows your face
Wrong document type — Use a government-issued photo ID

You can try again if your first attempt fails. Go to Settings → Identity Verification and click Try Again.

Privacy & Security

What Data is Collected?

Stripe collects:

Photos of your ID (front and back)
A selfie for facial comparison
Data extracted from your ID (name, date of birth)

Who Sees My Information?

Stripe processes and stores your verification data securely
GatherRound receives only your verification status (verified/not verified) and what documents were verified
Other users see only your Verified badge — never your ID or personal details

How is My Data Protected?

Stripe is certified to the highest security standards (PCI Level 1, SOC 2)
Your ID photos are encrypted and stored securely
Stripe's privacy policy governs how your data is handled

Data Retention

Stripe retains verification data according to their privacy policy. GatherRound does not store your ID photos or personal ID information.

What Verification Means (and Doesn't Mean)

Verification Confirms:

✓ You submitted a valid government ID
✓ Your selfie matches the ID photo
✓ The ID belongs to a real person

Verification Does NOT:

✗ Guarantee someone's behavior
✗ Replace a background check
✗ Mean GatherRound endorses the person
✗ Guarantee event safety

Who Can Verify?

GatherRound Pro members (Player/Host accounts)
Must be 18 years or older
Must have a valid government-issued photo ID

Who Cannot Verify?

Free account users (upgrade to Pro first)
Business accounts (verification is for individuals only)
Users under 18

Cost

Identity verification is included free with your GatherRound Pro subscription. There's no additional charge to verify.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I verify on mobile?

Yes! Mobile is actually recommended — it's easier to take good photos of your ID with your phone camera.

What if I don't have a driver's license?

You can use any government-issued photo ID: passport, state ID, national ID card, etc.

Is my information safe?

Yes. Stripe is a trusted payment and identity provider used by millions of businesses. They never share your personal ID information with GatherRound or other users.

Can I remove my verification?

Once verified, your status remains verified. If you have concerns, contact support.

Will hosts see my ID information?

No. Hosts and other users only see that you're verified. They never see your ID, date of birth, or other personal details.

What if I need to verify with a new ID?

Contact support if you need to update your verification with a new document.
